Our Winemakers Philosophy

Our winemaker, Andrea "Buck" Bartolucci, creates his wines with minimal intervention and winemaker influence. He believes wine should reflect the vineyard, the vintage, and the varietals. Any winemaker influence should be subtle, must enhance and complement, but not overpower the fruit.

Pinot Grigio

Our Pinot Grigio is an extremely versatile wine that can be enjoyed throughout the year. It is both complex and interesting, and has a clean, crisp finish with wonderful nuances of melon and pear that mingle on the palate. It has delightfully fresh, fruity aromas, and pairs well with crab cakes, quiche, risotto, and cream-based pasta dishes. The first harvest of Pinot Grigio was crushed in 1999.

Chardonnay

Our Chardonnay begins with barrel fermenting our intensely flavored Carneros grapes in French oak. After resting on the lees to develop a hint of yeast character, it is bottle aged to maturity. With hints of apples, pears, and butterscotch our Chardonnay is creamy with a nice lingering finish, and pairs nicely with roasted poultry, cracked crab, and cream based pasta dishes.

Pinot Noir

The Carneros Region provides the soil and climate necessary to capture the true essence of the delicate Pinot Noir grape. This includes strawberry, cherry, and earthy characteristics. We combine whole grape clusters with crushed must during fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for approximately nine months. Our Pinot Noir is extremely fruit forward, and is an excellent “food” pairing wine that accompanies many dishes such as; grilled salmon, stuffed mushrooms, polenta, and tenderloin of beef.

“Due Ragazze” Pinot Noir Riserva

Italian for “two girls,” Due Ragazze pays tribute to our organic grape growing traditions, and the rich winemaking heritage that is being continued today by the fourth generation family members, Brette and Taylor Bartolucci. This Pinot Noir reserve is a blend of four premium clones planted in a specific seven-acre plot on our Estate Vineyard. Each clone brings unique components to the wine, which in combination with French Oak aging, contributes to the intense berry jams flavors, well defined structure, and ageability of this premium reserve wine.

Merlot

There are 6 acres of Merlot grapes planted in our Madonna Vineyard.Harvested at an average of 24° Brix, the grapes are crushed, and the must is fermented at 85° for 10 days with Pasteur Red yeast. After fermentation, the wine is pressed, racked once, and placed into small oak barrels for 16 - 18 months. Our Merlot has the aromas of raspberry, toasty oak, and green tea. It pairs well with lamb, prime rib, lasagna, roasted potatoes, and beef stew.

Dolcetto

Dolcetto is the newest member of our wine family! It is a sturdy, Northern Italian red that is an everyday favorite wine of the Piedmont Region. Intense in color with a whiff of exotic spice, our Dolcetto is drinkable upon release, or can be developed further with three to eight years of cellaring. With raspberry and cranberry fruit flavors, the Dolcetto has proven to have large tannins, a clean fresh finish, and pairs well with risotto, pork tenderloin, lamb, and lasagna.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Planted on the rolling hills of the Madonna Vineyard in Carneros, our Cabernet grapes have southern exposure. This southern influence provides maximum sun exposure for peak flavor maturity. The fruit is crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation the wine is pressed and transferred into small oak barrels. It is then aged for 18 - 24 months. On the palate our Cabernet has a structured mouth feel with soft tannins and herbal undertones. Our Cabernet Sauvignon compliments filet mignon, pork tenderloin, and hearty tomato based pasta dishes.

Pinot Noir Rosetto, Gewurztraminer and Muscat Canelli

These three white wines are produced in very limited quantities and are sold only at the winery. They are treated gently to preserve their fresh, fruity, floral flavors. Released in the spring, they should be consumed when young, making delightful aperitifs or dessert wines.

Pinot Noir Rosetto bright and clean with ripe strawberry fruit our Rosetto is the perfect match with light appetizers, assorted cheeses and fresh salads.

Gewurztraminer spicy and crisp, also offers floral aromas and grapefruit character. It is especially suited for Far East cuisine, curries, and spicy foods.

Muscat Canelli, a slightly sweeter wine, with its lovely tropical fruit flavors, apricot and floral characteristics pairs well with fresh fruit, pound cake, cheesecake, and butter cookies.
